Scooter Update- Apollo Phantom v2

2 minutes

I teased this a couple months ago, but never did a follow up post. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten to ride my scooter as much as I had hoped, just due to weather and being busy. However, the time I have spent with it… HOLY COW! It is so much fun! Quick, fast, more nimble than I am capable of, stops quickly, and has great range.

My ‘scooter journey’ started with an Inmotion L9. I liked it a lot, EXCEPT it was too slow and their advertised range was no where near accurate. (like 35% of what they said) So, I returned it. To Inmotion’s credit, they didn’t fight me on the return and were quite nice about the whole thing. If the L9 meets your needs, don’t let my story sway you away from it. After my return, I knew I wanted something that brought me up to the big boy scooter world. I’m 6'5" and well over 200lbs, so I needed one that was pretty hefty. Let me tell you that there are a lot of great options out there. I was really helped by the content at Electric Scooter Guide, in particular their “Big Dawg” article. This led me to an internal debate on what I wanted.. price, performance, size, etc. Let me tell you, the options are plenty! Of course you know which way I went… I selected the Apollo Phantom v2, and pre-ordered the v3 upgrade kit (more on that later).

Let me give you my early impression, pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Fast
  • Durable with lots of shock support
  • Support has been quick to respond
  • Range appears to be amazing
  • Looks.. it just looks aggressive and fast
  • Wide deck… plenty of room for my size 13s

Cons:

  • Very big and heavy, won’t fit in my trunk
  • Jerky acceleration… this is supposed to be fixed with the v3 upgrade
  • No App support. This is coming with v3.
  • Brake pads rub. They say this goes away after further riding
  • Changing tires appears to be time consuming

So there you go. Those are some of my thoughts on the Phantom v2. I’ll get some photos and videos soon!
